This Easy Oreo Tiramisu with Chocolate Ladyfingers recipe yields a creamy whipped cream oreo mascarpone cheese filling layered with coffee-soaked homemade black cocoa powder ladyfingers. You can also replace the homemade ladyfingers with whole oreo cookies for even more oreo flavor and an icebox cakes effect. I decorated the final layer of oreo tiramisu filling with more cream and a checkerboard motif in black cocoa powder for Halloween!

Happy Halloween! This is my final halloween dessert of the year. After making black and purple checkerboard cookies last year for Halloween, I knew I wanted to bring the checkerboard motif to another dessert. You could also sprinkle the top with oreo crumbs for even easier decorating and more oreo flavor.
The homemade black cocoa ladyfingers are adapted from my traditional ladyfingers recipe. I really love how the black cocoa is a nod to the black cocoa in the oreos, but you could absolutely replace them with regular ladyfingers or use whole oreos as the biscuit layer. If you're looking for an oreo-inspired warm dessert, try my oreo scones! They also have a halloween motif and black cocoa in the dough.

Substitutions and variations
Here's how to customize this easy oreo tiramisu with chocolate ladyfingers recipe to your liking:
- Instant coffee — I actually used instant coffee here instead of brewing it. I use freeze-dried coffee and use almost triple the amount called for on the package instructions to be sure it's strong. You could also use espresso powder, just add 4 tablespoons of espresso powder to 2 cups of hot water.
- Oreos instead of ladyfingers — use whole oreos in place of ladyfingers. Soak them very briefly in the coffee before adding to the dish.
- Crumb top — replace the black cocoa design with oreo crumbs. You can scatter them all over or use a stencil like I did for a checkerboard design.
- Another dish — you can assemble the tiramisu in a 9-inch springform pan, 8-9 inch metal or glass pan, or a 1.5-qt oval dish.
- White chocolate — to incorporate white chocolate into the dessert, gently melt together 1 cup of the heavy cream and ½ cup of white chocolate until smooth. Let the mixture chill overnight then whip as usual.

How to make This Easy Oreo Tiramisu Step-by-Step

Step 1: Combine egg yolks and half of the sugar, and whisk vigorously until pale, fluffy and thoroughly combined. Add vanilla and beat until combined. Set aside.

Step 2: Pour egg whites into the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. Beat on medium until foamy. With the mixer running, gradually add the remaining half of sugar. Continue beating until stiff peaks are formed. Gently fold egg whites into the yolk mixture, careful not to deflate the egg whites.

Step 3: Combine flour, cocoa powder, salt and cornstarch, whisking well to combine. Sift dry ingredients in and gently fold again until combined. Pour batter into the piping bag. Pipe 3-inch lines onto baking trays, spaced 1 ½ inches apart. Dust lightly with powdered sugar. Bake for 12-14 minutes. Cool completely on trays before transferring to a cooling rack.

Step 4: Gradually add ¼ cup of the cold heavy cream to the mascarpone while mixing gently with a rubber spatula. Add the vanilla and salt. Mix until smooth. Do not overmix and be sure your mascarpone and cream are similar temperature, otherwise you risk breaking the emulsion. Set aside. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, combine the remaining 1 cup of heavy cream with the granulated sugar. Beat until soft peaks. Add the whipped cream to the mascarpone mixture and fold until combined. Add half of the Oreo crumbs and fold just until combined. Set aside.

Step 5: Working with half of the ladyfingers, quickly dip each one in the coffee, one at a time, into the coffee and place them in a single layer covering the bottom of a 9x9-inch square pan. Sprinkle half of the reserved oreo crumbs on top of the ladyfingers in the pan.

Step 6: Top with half of the oreo cream mixture, smoothing it out to the edges. Dip more ladyfingers into the coffee and create another layer. Sprinkle the remaining oreo crumbs over this layer. Top with the remaining oreo cream mixture and smooth the top. Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve, or for at least 4 hours and up to overnight. Before serving, garnish as you see fit. I did a layer of plain sweetened whipped cream and a dusting of black cocoa powder, but you could skip all of that and just garnish with more oreo crumbs.
Top tips
- Don't let your mascarpone get too warm (room temperature) otherwise it will split, and become grainy. Pull it from the fridge just 10 minutes from when you need it.
- If you want to use store-bought ladyfingers for a true no bake dessert recipe, you will need 40-50 ladyfingers (two 3.5 oz boxes).
- I made my own checkerboard stencil and it was very tedious. I highly recommend buying one, if you want the same effect.
Recipe FAQs
It's usually in the deli section of the grocery store rather than the cheese section! If you can't find mascarpone, you can swap for cream cheese, but it will be a lot tangier.

Store leftover tiramisu covered in plastic wrap in the fridge for up to four days.
